Science Fair!

A few weeks ago when they sent the paper home about the Science Fair Madi said, "Can I PLEASE do it!" So her and her dad came up with a cute project (he knows good projects because he has been a judge of a science fair. Madi is VERY proud of that!)

Her project was "Can Beans Sprout in just Liquid?" So for the last 10 days we have had sour milk, fermented orange juice, water, vinegar, sprite and ice tea sitting and SMELLING up my kitchen. But it was all worth it.

Madi worked SO HARD on her project last night and this morning. She came home early yesterday from school because she had a pulled muscle in her neck. She could hardly move. But she was determined to finish her project. I felt so bad making her write everything. In tears at the end of the night she looked at me and said, "Mom, do you think I have a chance to win?" I told her, "Of course you do! But remember, its not all about winning. You are already a winner!"

We made it to school on time to get everything set up this morning! (That is nothing short of a miracle). I know I am dumb, but I was in tears as I left her in the gym. She was so excited and SO NERVOUS to talk to the judges. We would find out the results at 3:10 pm in an assembly that afternoon.

Madi was the only one from her class that entered the Science Fair. They came down to see her project.

So the assembly started and Mike still wasn't there. I started stressing and trying to text him as they announced the Kindergarten winners. I didn't pay attention to how they where awarding things. Mike walked in just as they started on 1st grade. They had all of the participants come up and game them awards. They never called Madi's name. My heart sank. I looked at Mike and asked, "Did they forget her?" Then they announced the 3rd place, then the 2nd place,...still no Madi. Then they said, "And now for the 1st place winner who will be going to District Science Fair is...MADI OLSON!!!!" I just cried as I watched her little face light up! She did it! All of her hard work paid off. I was so proud of her!
